Fine Tune The Cost ...
Your new kitchen is likely to be one of the most expensive purchases you make in life.
There are ways you can design your kitchen that will make it as cost effective as possible, and potentially cut the cost by up to a third!
Kitchen Cabinets ...
- The bigger (wider) the cabinet, the fewer you will buy, and, as most fitters base their quotes on the number of cabinets that need fitting - the cost of fitting 6x300mm cabinets is far more than fitting 3x600mm cabinets (your fitter will charge about £50 per cupboard, do the sums)
- Now check out the cost of a 300mm cabinet and a 600mm cabinet (in theory the 300mm should be half the cost of the 600mm, shouldn't it?), but no its not (it's about three quarters of the cost, making the purchase of one 600mm cabinet far more cost effective than buying 2 x 300mm)
- Taller wall cabinets are more cost effective than standard height wall cabinets for the same reason
- Check the number of drawers your new kitchen design provides and how many of them are false? - remember you are paying extra for those drawers whether they work or not ... it could be far cheaper buying "Hi-Line" base cabinets with a separate nest of drawers (that all work, and are an appropriate width)
Kitchen Appliances ...
- Forget "Snob Value" and understand that most built in kitchen appliances are made by a very small number of manufacturers, and are then re-badged with brand names ... look for value, not brand name
- Don't buy appliances that "over perform", how many programs do you use on a dishwasher (one or two?) ... so why pay extra for a machine that has fourteen programs?
- Be wary of expensive high pressure kitchen taps with pullout sprays as they are unlikely to perform very well on your low pressure water system .. buy cheaper low pressure taps
- If you are buying a "White Kitchen" you will find that freestanding "White Appliances" do not stand out like a sore thumb ... and are likely to be half the price of the "Integrated Appliances" that you intend placing a "White Door" on.
